How we help our clients deal with Shame

We’ve been helping clients learn about Brene Brown’s Shame Resilience Theory. This involves exploring the roots of each individual’s experience with shame in childhood, school, employment and current relationships. Clients are now able to differentiate between shame, guilt, humiliation and embarrassment. They are learning how to increase their own shame resilience which we know to be crucial in recovery. This is especially important during times of the year when clients might be exposed to unhealthy relationships and behaviors.
